Debate BRCC 2007...
.
Many Issues and topics will be discussed in the next few days. One thing that stood out to me tonight was the perceived future of the Virginia economy by the two Candidates. It has been reported recently that the Virginia budget may see a shortfall in the future due to slowing housing sales and other economic reasons. It was interesting to see how each Candidate responded to this question and how they saw the future with how they would\will address a potential "Shortfall"...
There was a good turnout tonight at the Question\Answer forum between State Senator Hanger and Candidate Sayre at the Blue Ridge Community College...
The format worked well and I am sure there will be much written about the "Debate" in the next few days by the local bloggers, Bob Stuart from the NewsVirginian, and David Royer in the NewsLeader...
Rightside will be sure to write about it the way I saw it and I was glad to see this type of format provided to the voters of the 24th district...

Some People see this glass as "Half-empty" as compared to other people who see this glass "Half-full"...
I believe in the man who considers this glass "Half-full" and sees the potential and the strength of the American worker and business's to respond to the challenge as we did after the attacks of September 11th.

Yup, George Bush cut taxes, and the Dems howled!
But what happened? More revenues came in...
The unfortunate thing is that our Federal & State government budgeted and spent as much as they could. Now we have a slow down in the economy and they cry a budget shortfall. If the politicians did not spend all the extra revenue coming in we would not have this panic. We need a business person in the Senate looking out for the taxpayer...
It seemed that Sen.Hanger was not prepared for a real debate. Mr. Sayre's volunteers were out there at 4:30 putting up signs, preparing, and getting settled. Sen.Hanger walked in with three people who just seemed dumbstruck with Mr.Sayre's preparation. The Senator wanted to maintain a folksy chat. He was not prepared for Mr.Sayre's complete command of the issues. Sen.Hanger was not prepared for his actual bills to be read to the audience. He was not prepared to explain why he opposed Delegates Saxman,Kline, or Landes on a regular basis. And the common sense ideas of Scott such as a simple umbrella for the elected officials, instead of an eleven million dollar tunnel was amazing.
The Slantin (to the left) MisLeader still is not informing the public that yes, Emmett Hanger voted for SB 708 in 2006 also which placed a 5% tax on the wholesale price of gasoline, raised the sales and use tax on new and used cars 25%, Tripled the Grantors Tax for selling your home etc.
All they can repeat was the 04' tax increase... They are truly sad in that regard.
Scott Hammered Emmett last night for supporting the previous 04' tax increase bill of $2.6M vs. the $1.4M increase that ultimately passed.
Also Emmett criticized the "No New Taxes Pledge" Scott Signed, only to have Scott hammer him on "Oh Really, well what about our local delegates signing that pledge too"? Then he reminded the audience our local delegates have been voting against Emmett's tax increases!
If that debate were televised live...
